स्वार्थ की पूर्ति

*औचित्य प्रच्युताचारो युक्ता स्वार्थं न साधयेत्।*

*व्याजबालिवधेनैव  रामकीर्तिः  कलङ्किता।।*

नैतिक रूप से अनुचित एवम् अशोभनीय कृत्य द्वारा अपने स्वार्थ की पूर्ति कभी नहीं की जाए।

वानरराज बालि (जिसने अपने अनुज की पत्नी हरण का अक्षम्य अपराध किया था) का वध छल से करने के कारण भगवान श्री राम की कीर्ति भी कलंकित हो गयी थी।

One should never take recourse to morally very low and unfair means to achieve his objectives.

By killing Baali, the King of Vanars (who had kidnapped his brother's wife), in a clandestine manner, even Lord Ram's name and fame was tarnished.

कर्म

*यदतीतमतीतं तत् संदिग्धं यदनागतम्।*

*तस्माद् यत्प्राप्तकालं तन्मानवेन विधीयताम्।।*

जो अतीत है वह तो अतीत ही है, अर्थात् बीत चुका है, एवं जो आने वाला है वह अनिश्चित है। अतः अभी मिले समय अर्थात् वर्तमान से सम्बद्ध होवें एवं कर्म करें।

The Past is the Past, that is, it has passed, and the Future  is uncertain. So, get involved with the Present and do the deeds.

भाव

*न देवो विद्यते काष्ठे न पाषाणे न मृण्मये।*

*भावे हि विद्यते देवस्तस्माद् भावो हि कारणम्॥*

न ही लकड़ी या पत्थर की मूर्ति में, न ही मिट्टी में अपितु परमेश्वर का निवास तो भावों में यानि हृदय में होता है। इसलिये जहां भाव होता है परमेश्वर वहीं प्रकट हो जाते हैं।

Neither in the idol of wood or stone, nor in the clay, but God resides in the heart, that is, in emotions. Therefore God appears where there is emotion. The belief that makes us feel the presence. Hence, only the emotion/feeling matters – not the material.

कटु वचन

*संरोहति अग्निना दग्धं वनं परशुना हतं I*

 *वाचा दुरुक्तं बीभत्सं न संरोहति वाक् क्षतम्॥*

आग से नष्ट हुए या कुल्हाडियों से काटे गये वन में भी धीरे-धीरे पेड़-पौधे उगने लगते हैं, किन्तु अप्रिय और कटु वचनों से दिये गये घाव कभी नहीं भर पाते।

A forest burnt down by fire, or cut down by axe will eventually grow back. But wounds caused by harsh, inappropriate words will never heal.

महानता

*गुणैरुत्तङ्गता याति नोच्चैरासनसंस्थित: ।* 

*प्रासादशिखरस्थोऽपि काक: किं गरुडायते।।*

केवल ऊँचे आसन अथवा पद पर आसीन होने से ही एक व्यक्ति महान नहीं हो जाता है।

क्या राजमहल के चोटी पर बैठने से कौआ गरूड़ बन जायेगा? कदापि नहीं!

महानता श्रेष्ठ गुण सदाचार, शील और चरित्र द्वारा ही  प्राप्त होती है।

A Crow sitting on a high rise building or a palace can't be considered as an Eagle, similarly a person sitting at a high place or post cant be considered as a noble person.

Nobility can only be gained by good Character, morals and deeds.

कर्तव्य

*योगस्थ: कुरु कर्माणि संग्ङंत्यक्त्वा धनंजय।*

*सिद्ध्यसिद्ध्यो: समो भूत्वा समत्वं योग उच्यते॥*

गीता अध्याय २ श्लोक ४८

परमयोगीश्वर भगवान कृष्ण समझा रहे हैं कि

हे धनंजय। कर्म न करने का आग्रह त्यागकर, सफलता असफलता, यश-अपयश के विषय में समबुद्धि होकर योग युक्त होकर, कर्म कर, (क्योंकि) समत्व को ही योग कहते हैं।

We should perform

our duties established in Yoga, renouncing attachment, and eventempered in success and failure; Envenness of temper is called yoga.

अपने कर्तव्य का पालन करें।

कठिन समय

*रहिमन विपदा हो भली, जो थोरे दिन होय।*

*हित अनहित या जगत में, जानि परत सब कोय॥*

जीवन में कठिन समय अर्थात्  विपदा का होना अच्छा बताते हुए रहीम जी कहते हैं कि इसी दौरान यह पता चलता है कि दुनिया में कौन हमारा हित या अनहित सोचता है।

It is good in life to be bad time for a while because it distinguishes our well-wishers and others.

हित

*स अर्थो यो हस्ते तत् मित्रं यत् निरन्तरं व्यसने।*

*तत् रूपं यत् गुणाः तत् विज्ञानं यत् धर्मः।।*

वही सच्चा धन है जो अपने हाथ (अधिकार) में हो और वही सच्चा मित्र है जो हमेशा विपत्ति में भी साथ दे। रूपवान होना तभी शोभा देता है जब कि व्यक्ति गुणवान भी हो, तथा वही विज्ञान सही है जो धर्म के सिद्धान्तों के अनुसार (समाज के हित के लिये) हो।

Only that wealth is the real wealth which is in our hands (under control) and only that person is a real friend who constantly supports us even in adversity. Beauty of a person is real only when he is also virtuous and a science or a discipline of learning is real only when it propagates religious austerity and righteousness.

आलस्य का त्याग

*श्रेयांसि च सकलान्यनलसानां हस्ते नित्यसान्निद्ध्यानि I*

इस संसार की सकल संपत्ति एवं श्रेय उन्हीं के हाथ में होता है जो सदैव आलस्य का त्याग कर कर्म में उद्यत रहते हैं।

The gross wealth and credit of this world is in the hands of those who always abandon laziness and remain engaged in _karma_ means action.

कर्म करें।

प्रकार

*द्वौ अम्भसि निवेष्टव्यौ गले बद्ध्वा दृढां शिलाम्,*

*धनवन्तम् अदातारम् दरिद्रं च अतपस्विनम्।।*

दो प्रकार के लोगों को बड़े पत्थर से बाँधकर गहरे समुद्र में फेंक देना ही उचित है। एक वह जो धनवान होते हुए भी उदारतापूर्वक दान न करता हो, दूसरा वह जो दरिद्र होते हुए भी श्रम न करता हो।

It is advisable to tie two types of people with big stones and throw them into the deep sea. One who does not donate generously despite being rich, and one who does not work hard despite being poor.
